Geospatial technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing have, until relatively recently, been tools that were affordable only to the largest organisations. Now, however, geospatial systems have become a cost-effective option for even small businesses, and with the advent of Google Earth and other Web-based geospatial solutions, the potential of spatially-enabled information is being increasingly recognised by the private and public sectors alike.
