NIVA NORWAY - Akvaplan-niva has been working in Russia since 1989. The projects have spanned over pure research to commercial projects within aquaculture and different kind of environmental assignments. Over the years a great network has been formed with scientific institutes, authorities and industry. On this base the board of Akvaplan-niva decided one year ago to establish a subsidiary in Murmansk. Other incentives that factored in were expectations of increased industrial activities, much connected to oil and gas and mining, as well as shipping in the Russian North, including the development of giant Shtockman gas field in the eastern Barents Sea.
