HOK Appoints Gerry Faubert as Director of Integrated Design

PR - Global architectural design firm HOK has appointed Gerry Faubert, CET, LEED AP, to the position of Vice President and Director of Integrated Design. In this newly created role, Faubert will lead the integration of high-performance solutions into the early design of projects to achieve optimal sustainable outcomes.

Based in the firm's Toronto office, Faubert will serve as a resource to project teams and clients throughout the HOK global office network. He will collaborate with architects and engineers of record in identifying and applying sustainable strategies to projects, with the goal of conserving resources, improving performance and improving overall environmental impact.

A recognized leader of innovative green building projects across Canada, Faubert formerly served as Principal of Keen Engineering and Managing Principal of Stantec Buildings Engineering. He recently collaborated with HOK and Bergmark, Guimond, Hammarlund, Jones Architects on the design of the Jean Canfield Government of Canada Building in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, a 188,368-square-foot pilot project to align with the federal government's sustainability strategy. An integrated design process enabled the project team to create the most sustainable solution feasible, yielding sustainable innovations and reduced resource consumption, including a 65% reduction in energy demand and a 78% percent reduction in potable water demand compared to a typical office building, as well as the largest building-mounted photovoltaic array in Canada. The project earned the Prince Edward Island Lieutenant Governor's Award of Excellence in Architecture in 2008 and is pursuing LEED® certification.

Faubert's other recent projects include the Student Centre at the University of Toronto Scarborough and the University of Chicago's Center for Physical and Computational Sciences.

A frequent spokesperson and advocate for sustainable design, Faubert has lectured at conferences across North America. He is a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians & Technologists, Canada Green Building Council, Canadian Design-Build Institute and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers. He studied Building Engineering Science and Technology at Vanier College in St. Laurent, Quebec.

In his new position, Faubert joins the firmwide leadership team working with HOK's global network of sustainable leaders. Located in each of the firm's regional offices, these sustainable planning, design and consulting specialists direct strategies and projects within their respective regions while also contributing their expertise to other HOK projects throughout the world.
