PR - The Clark Labs' staff invites you to
download our newest Focus Paper on Segmentation and Segment-Based
Classification. Unlike traditional pixel-based classification methods, segment-based
classification is an approach that classifies a remotely-sensed image based on
image segments.
Segmentation is the process of defining homogeneous pixels into these spectrally similar segments. The goal of the segmentation process is to change the characteristics of the image into more meaningful ones--from the pixel as the minimal mapping unit to features in the landscape--thus facilitating interpretation and classification. The segmentation and segment-based classification routines are included in the IDRISI Taiga software.
