There is a relatively urgent need for a high level consultant to work with a group coordinating spatial data that is being supplied from and being used by numerous international and U.S agencies in continuing efforts in Haiti. Most work of the consultant could be done from a distance but some travel to Miami is likely.  Overview knowledge of various GIS, web standards, SDI standards, OGC standards, taxonomies/ontologies, etc. and the ability to make clear recommendations is desired. +++++++++  The work will focus on reviewing various data layers being generated by a variety of organizations and sketching out future standards for how layers are labeled for ease of use.  The candidate will review all of the information being published in one collaborative environment  and provide  input on how to best organize, rename and structure this content.  Additionally, this candidate will meet with individuals involved it the spatial compilation of data layers created for the Haiti relief effort.

Individual with a PhD in Geospatial Information Sciences or related field of study.  10+ years experience in the following areas· Knowledge of principles and methods for describing the features of land, sea, and air masses, including their physical characteristics, locations, interrelationships, and distribution of plant, animal, and human life.· Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.· The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand. The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations). Analyzing information and using logic to address work-related issues and problems.

Creativity and alternative thinking to develop new ideas for and answers to work-related problems.· Authoring presentations, white papers and/or speeches on spatial science topics. Experience working within an international geospatial community is highly desired.  Additionally, a strong background in working with the coordination and organization of GIS and spatial data for various academic institutions or federal customers is key.
