PR -- In its location of Istanbul, the world's only city on two continents, INTERGEO East will extend over both the European and Asian sides of the Bosphorous. Some fourteen million people live in and around Istanbul. Turkey has given top priority to boosting the region and creating standardized structures. It has also been in accession negotiations with the European Union since 3 October 2005. With annual growth rates averaging 6 percent, Turkey is receiving billions of pounds of investment from foreign companies, including a large amount from Germany.
Combining a trade fair and conference, INTERGEO East fulfils three functions. First, INTERGEO East promotes a regular exchange of information between the regions on the structural development of land management based on standardized criteria. Secondly, the event ensures a comprehensive overview of the latest technologies and developments in the areas of data capture and geoinformation systems. And thirdly, this international communication platform promotes know-how transfer and is a marketplace for innovations, says Olaf Freier, CEO of HINTE Messe GmbH, Karlsruhe, and Project Manager of INTERGEO East.
From 27 to 29 January 2009, experts will be on hand in Istanbul for discussions on land management, geoinformation, building and the environment spanning all industries. For the first time, visitors from the business and scientific communities and public administration bodies will be building bridges between Asia and Europe and strengthening their focus on other issues in the region, adds Freier.
The congress trade fair will also be assured of a universal dimension in 2009 through the integration of the ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing), which will expand the congress programme with cross-national subject areas. The event will therefore be a central international meeting point for specialists, thus promoting and aiding vital global discussions.
The successful partnerships at INTERGEO East are receiving assistance this year from the Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Civil Engineering headed by Congress Director Assoc. Prof. Rahmi Nuran CELIK, the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and the German-Turkish Chamber of Industry and Commerce. INTERGEO East is also being supported by the Republic of Serbia - Republic Geodetic Authority (RGA), the Serbian Chamber of Engineers, GTZ GmbH (German Agency for Technical Cooperation), the Association for Geospatial Information in South-East Europe (AGISEE), the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) and the German Association of Surveying (DVW) as licensors of INTERGEO East.
