New Release of Bentley's SewerCAD Helps Engineers Effectively Evaluate
Commenting on the new SewerCAD, Ryan Johnson, program manager at Veolia Water North America, said, “We have applied SewerCAD on several important projects with great success. Its incredibly short learning curve and ease of use increase our productivity, and its broad set of feature-rich tools improves the quality of our designs.”
Said Thomas Walski, Bentley SewerCAD product manager, “SewerCAD’s features, stability, and performance were developed specifically for the needs of engineers working on the hydraulic aspects of wastewater collection systems. As a result, users of this software won’t face the frustrations commonly associated with overly complex modeling engines – including the need to constantly readjust the input data and modeling assumptions.”
Walski continued, “An array of new features in SewerCAD V8 XM facilitates everything from designing a small subdivision to working on huge systems with a mix of gravity and pumped networks. For example, the newly included LoadBuilder module helps modelers allocate sewer loads based on a variety of GIS-based sources such as customer water-use data, area-wide flow measurement, or polygons with known population or land use.”
Additional new features in SewerCAD V8 XM include:
· Air valves at high points in force mains,
· TRex for automated ground elevation data assignment,
· Tractive stress calculations,
· Active topology,
· Interpolating properties between elements,
· Accurate variable speed pump analysis,
· Improved graphing of dynamic results,
· Engineering profiles in DXF,
· Network navigator,
· Ability to import StormCAD and SewerGEMS models,
· System head curves,
· Easier creation of controls,
· Complex manifolded pump stations/force mains,
· Great numerical stability/performance,
· Enhanced graphical user interface featuring dynamic zooming, named views library, and dockable windows,
· AutoCAD 2009 support.
The constraint-based design features in SewerCAD enable modelers to automatically design gravity piping and structures. They allow users to specify elements to be designed, from a single pipe size to the entire system, by simply entering the design restrictions, including minimum and maximum velocities, covers and slopes; pipe and manhole matching offsets; and allow or disallow drop structures. SewerCAD will automatically determine cost-effective pipe sizes and invert elevations, eliminating unnecessary pipe trench excavation.
