The Sand County Almanac is a pioneering work about land conservation, and now the location where Aldo Leopold wrote this book is a National Historic Landmark. The Aldo Leopold Shack and Farm near Baraboo, Wisconsin are now saved for posterity.
Leopold pioneered the science and profession of wildlife management and his conservation philosophies led to the establishment of national policies on forestry, game management, watershed management and soil conservation. The Aldo Leopold Foundation continues to articulate his ideas about ecology, land use, history and ethics.
