With the upcoming Olympic Games, the Beijing Urban Planning Exhibition Center will likely see a lot of traffic. The first floor of the center welcomes guests. On the second floor there is a bronze model of the old city at 1:1,000 scale showing how the city appeared in 1949. On the third floor there’s a scale a scale model of the city as it appears now (see photo above), including the Olympic village and business district. The fourth floor houses a cinema for the showing of virtual reality films. The cinema is currently showing “The Immortal City”, a 10-minute film about the 850-year history of Beijing as a capital city, and a 4D movie that projects how the city may look in 2069.
Journalists recently toured the facility in advance of the games. For more information, be sure to read this amusing diary entry from UK-based journalist Brendan O’Neill on Spiked Online.
