I’m a big fan of the designs and ideas of Buckminster Fuller. I was exposed to the geodesic dome, the Dymaxion House, and other ideas through the Whole Earth Catalog and other readings. When I was in junior high school, Fuller visited the local college for a talk and invited grade school kids. I remember being mesmerized by a talk and slides with utopian themes, expressing the idea that things can be designed to make the world a better place.
There’s been a good deal of coverage of Fuller in the press lately, tied to a new exhibit of his designs at the Whitney Museum in New York City. There are also plans for a Buckminster Fuller Symposium at the Cooper Union in September. I’m hoping to make it to one or both of these exhibits.
