In a move that raises the profile of infrastructure to a new level, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, California Governor Arnold Scharzenegger and Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell announced a new task force to advocate infrastructure needs. The organization, Building America’s Future, will be comprised of elected officials and others and will be financed by the Rockefeller Foundation.
The three politicians lashed out at Washington politicians for neglecting the nation’s bridges, roads and airports. They boldly stated that we have an infrastructure crisis, and pointed to the Minnesota bridge failure, New Orleans failures and our congested airports. They also suggested that we’re falling far behind countries like China and Malaysia that spend much more, gaining greater efficiency and economic benefits in the process.
