DHS National Applications Office Opens Despite Privacy Concerns

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is moving forward with the creation of the National Application Office despite concerns that it violates Americans’ privacy and civil liberties. The program will provide federal, state and local officials with access to satellite imagery to assist in emergency response and domestic security.

Many Democratic lawmakers have proposed the program because they feel that turning spy satellites on America violates privacy. A not yet publically released Goverment Accountablity Office report appears to back up this assertion, according to those that have read it.
