In a vote last night, the Royal Geographic Society chose to continue funding broader academic oriented research rather than “single large research programs” such as Darwin’s famed expedition. There was a cry by explorers to see the society return to more hands-on epic adventures rather than today’s “over-reliance on computer technology to understand the Earth.”
Looks like the geo geeks won out on this one! This vote seems to mark the realization that with most of our world captured, it’s now up to greater spatial analysis for new discoveries.
