High Praise for NASA’s UAV

The latest iteration of NASA’s Ikhana unmanned aerial vehicle is credited with helping save the Sierra foothills town of Paradise from a raging wildfire last week. California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called the plane “one of the most exciting new weapons in our firefighting arsenal.”

The plane spotted intense heat to the east of small town where they didn’t expect any trouble. The firefighters quickly evacuated the towns 10,000 residents and set up a perimeter that halted the fire’s advance.
