Infrastructure Report Emphasizes Services

by Matt Ball on September 18, 2008

The National Academies is finalizing a report that will be released by the end of this year that focuses on the challenges the United States faces in addressing key infrastructure systems: water, power, transportation, telecommunications and waste management. The report seeks to reframe the investments we make to replace and repair this infrastructure, instead focusing on the services that infrastructure provides. There’s a strong need to identify long-term revenue streams for operating, maintaining and repairing our systems.

The report emphasizes the need for a complete rethinking of how we address infrastructure funding to meet environmental, financial and global challenges. Read an overview of the report’s contents in this article in Federal Times.
