Interview with James Fee

by Matt Ball on October 19, 2008

I spoke to James Fee about his move to join an architectural and engineering firm, and to get in on the BIM revolution. I’ve run into a few GIS experts at conferences recently that have indicated that they’re exploring BIM. We’ve been covering the convergence of CAD, GIS and BIM at V1 Magazine for a while, and the expert GIS person’s perspective is definitely an asset in this transition.

I asked Fee about how this transition came about:

“I had this opportunity to join an architecture firm that was interested in getting into GIS. It all kind of came together, and the more that we’ve been focused on figuring out how the systems fit together, the more it seems like this is really where we’re all headed. How do we integrate these 3D models, but give them the intelligence to be able to solve questions that we ask in our everyday jobs?”

You can read the full interview here.

Are you considering this space as a career path? Do you have practical answers to GIS and BIM convergence that you’d be interested in talking or writing about? If so, I’d love to hear from you.
