There’s an interesting feature in Forbes Magazine that speculates on whether Google is creating a navigation application for mobile devices. There are some comments from companies that provide paid services that insist that mobile device users are used to paying a premium for quality services. I don’t believe that’s true, but I am in agreement with other comments about the true costs of collecting data for navigation. Given the ongoing Google disruptions, I think there’s a good chance that free navigation will come true within the next few years. Perhaps it will even harness people as sensors to avoid the costly installation of sensors that other companies have undertaken.
