Learning How to Get Stimulus Funds

by Matt Ball on April 20, 2009

GITA’s Industry Trends Analysis Group met today at the GITA Geospatial Infrastructure Solutions Conference. The topic was the Stimulus Plan and the approach and availability of funds. None of the utilities had great insight into acquiring funds, and several indicated that they weren’t interested due to the strings that will be attached. Utilities could learn a great deal from local governments that have had to scrounge grant money related to security initiatives in recent years. Much work will be needed within the next month or so on scoping projects and writing grants to get money for projects that aren’t yet funded.

We are planning to build some reference site that will be of extreme value to all parties (residential home owners, energy inspectors, small and large businesses, industrial companies, schools, municipalities, energy companies of all types, etc.). Where do we begin to apply for stimulus funds to help us launch this tool? We already have the business model to make this site self-sustaining (in terms of funds), we merely need some seed money to get going.

Thanks, JoAnn

I seriously doubt that you’ll find any government funds for such an effort. Best to go after stakeholders and your sustaining funds source to get it off the ground.
