I just read a great piece on In These Times about the ubiquity of online tools to map our worlds and share our experiences. This is a good overview of interesting map mashups, discussion of the various online mapping platforms, and details on radical geographers that are using maps as a new medium for activism.
“In many ways, these mapping tools are re-locating us as the center of our personal universes. We no longer go to maps to find out where we are. Instead, we tell maps where we are and they form around us on the fly, a sensation that can be comforting or stifling. “
