Maps to Nuclear Weapon Sites Accidentally Leaked

by Matt Ball on June 3, 2009

The Government Printing Office released a report that contained “highly confidential” details regarding the location of civilian nuclear sites, including maps with the precise location of fuel stockpiles for nuclear weapons. The Federation of American Scientists publicized the existence of this report in their Secrecy News newsletter on Monday, and the report was subsequently removed from the web.

The report focused exclusively on civilian sites such as nuclear reactors and weapon laboratories. The reaction to this information is mixed, with some experts indicating that the availability of this information poses a security threat while other hold that the disclosure is harmless.

You can read more about this in a report from the New York Times.
