Measuring Water Current from Space

The Office of Naval Research has awarded a $500,000 grant to University of Miami researcher Roland Romeiser for his study into the use of TerraSAR-X satellite data for detecting and measuring river and ocean currents from space. The preliminary findings from applying a new technique are promising for the monitoring for global river runoff and changes in bathymetry in coastal waters.
