The April issue of the India-based publication GIS Development just reached me. In it Michael Jones gives a first-person account about his life and vision, and the future of Google Earth. Michael says that the next phase of development is all about mobile phones, “not a better Google Earth, but a smaller Google Earth.”
He also states that they’re working on much more detailed views of local geography, including providing information on buildings and shops, and inside them. “In the future all you will have to do is point your phone at something and get information about it.” It’s all about augmented reality it would seem.
