It’s nice to learn that ESRI and Microsoft have teamed up to help the Kenyan-based Green Belt Movement in their reforestation efforts. The alliance aims to lend technology assistance to this group to plant trees more efficiently, and in the right places. Green Belt Movement has planted more than 30 million trees since they were founded in 1977. The group’s founder, Wangari Maathai, won the 2004 Nobel Peace prize and was the keynote speaker at the 2007 ESRI User Conference.

I read the PR – so what is it Microsoft gives? Money? Hardware? Software? What?
I asked both ESRI and Microsoft for detailed accounting. They both didn’t want to reply with any specifics.
