More Support is Needed Regarding Climate Change

by Matt Ball on March 12, 2009

The National Research Council has just released a report that calls for more federal government climate change support for planning purposes. Most planning that is being done right now assumes that our current climate conditions will continue, but these assumptions could prove costly for sch things as bridges and coastal development should sea level rise predictions prove true.

The report calls on federal agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency to expand their activities and to create a closer connection between climate models and potential infrastructure outcomes. There’s also a call to tailor information products for the types of decisions that local and regional planners are faced with, including ways to mitigate and adapt to climate change effects.

The report, Informing Decisions in a Changing Climate, can be found online here.
