NASA is hard at work on a new “Sustainability Base” that will be located at the Ames Research Center in California. The new base is being designed with sensors throughout the buildings and grounds to keep track of the occupants, the building systems, the resources available, and upcoming events. The resulting control strategy will ensure that the comfort of occupants is maintained while reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint.
The building systems leverage some of the tools and sensors that NASA has developed for space missions. The closed-loop system will serve as a demonstration site for the deployment of dynamic feedback to produce an intelligent, intuitive and cognitive building management system.
