The Hema Map company of Brisbane, Australia celebrates 25 years this year. This outfit has a staff of 25 people and prints more than 320 publications, fueled by the owners passion for 4WD recreation in the Australian outback. A story in yesterday’s Courier Mail tells about this company and their mapmaking efforts.
I love the detailed reporting here about their field gear and expeditions. The group has a fleet of “kitted out” Nissan patrol vehicles and receives sponsorship for these vehicles from both Nissan and Coopers tires.
Each year they cover a lot of ground and spend months in the outback. One team is heading out for a 12-month expedition to map the Great Dividing Range.
Given the ongoing Hollywood writer’s strike, wouldn’t it be great if they turned this type of mapmaking into a reality television show?
