Report: Sustainable Water Systems

by Matt Ball on July 28, 2009

The Aspen Institute has just released a report titled, “Sustainable Water Systems: Step One – Redefining the Nation’s Infrastructure Challenge.” The report addresses the challenge that America faces in maintaining pipes, treatment plants and other critical infrastructure for the nation’s drinking water and wastewater systems, while also addressing the protection of the environment and the challenges of climate change and drought. The report is the culmination of multiple multidisciplinary meetings that took place at the Aspen Institute and included water utilities, environmental groups and academics. The report outlines ten policy recommendations that include a greater focus on watershed-oriented management strategies, as well as a greater emphasis on technological and managerial innovation.

The group will meet tomorrow for a roundtable discussion from 12 to 1:30 p.m. EST at the Aspen Institute’s Maryland office, and will include lunch. For more information and to RSVP for the luncheon, contact Regan Nelson at regan.nelson@aspeninstitute.org.
