by Matt Ball on February 19, 2008

Saudi Arabia has purchased their own Road Mobile Mapping System in order to monitor and maintain their road infrastructure. The Mobile Mapping System a GPS/ DR (Dead Reckoning) navigation system, a GPS-Gyro/IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), laser scanners, eight nearly horizontal cameras and a high sampling rate road data measurement logger. The unit can cover nearly 500 km/day, measuring centerline and sideline location precisely. This is said to be the first such unit in use in the Middle East or Asia.
