Seattle Ties Land Use to Climate Change

Seattle Comp PlanThe King County Comprehensive Plan may soon include measures to reject or modify development projects based on their effect on global warming, according to plans by Ron Sims, County Democratic Executive . The new legislation will be proposed in May and includes measures to integrate rural economic development, green jobs, equity and social justice.

The county has held sprawl in check and wants to spur denser residential construction by passing greenhouse gas emission standards. The commissioner says the county also plans to offer carbon credits to developers for transfering rural development rights to urban areas.
