I attended the SPAR 2009 Conference last week in Denver and came away very excited about the current state of 3D data collection, and the business prospects for this emerging service industry. There were a number of eye-opening technologies on display at the event, along with strong endorsements from many business sectors that are transforming their projects with this technology.
Of particular note is the infusion of projects forthcoming from the General Services Administration for laser scanning of the exterior and interior of federal buildings. An RFP is expected soon for more than $30 million dollars worth of nationwide work that will further align laser scanning with BIM and 4D project management efforts.
