The ‘Building’ in BIM as a Verb

by Matt Ball on September 30, 2008

Building Information Management (BIM) has taken a firm hold in the architecture and construction industry. In fact, it’s being touted as a revolution. While I’ve always thought of the word ‘building’ in BIM as a noun that relates to a structure, Autodesk is helping define the word as a verb that relates to any form of construction.

Autodesk describes BIM as an integrated process that coordinates reliable information about a project through all phases of design and construction. They have attached the concept of BIM to their Civil3D product, and are starting to see traction of the concept for roadway design and construction work.

I recently spoke with Adam Strafaci, senior industry marketing manager, civil engineering and Kevin Stewart, senior product manager for Civil Transportation at Autodesk. We discussed in detail the benefits of a BIM approach for civil engineers. You can read the complete outcome of this conversation in this feature in V1 Magazine.
