The use of Twitter to update the world about the Iranian elections was just amazing over the weekend. I got a tip from Steven Johnson (@geomantic) via Twitter about a talk and interview that Clay Shirky did about the rise of social media, and the global implications. His talk preceded the Iranian vote, but it’s a prescient look into the social media revolution.
He talks about global tech transfer, and how technology gets interesting when it gets technically boring, because what matters is social capital. Innovation can happen anywhere where people take for granted that we’re all in this together. And he rightly points out that we’re living in a time of the largest increase in expressive capability in human history.
