The Unemployed Can Turn to GIS

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) has organized a business forum on careers in geographic information systems (GIS), citing the positive job growth for the industry. The current national unemployment rate is at 8.1 percent, but the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts GIS-related jobs to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2016. The forum will include speakers from academia, federal agencies, and local companies with an emphasis on applications and economic opportunities.

That’s good to know. I was laid off 5mo ago as a GIS Analyst along w/ all my coworkers. Not much GISness happening here in New Mexico. Guess it’s time to move.

I have 2 degrees in GIS and have not been able to get a GIS job in 4 years
