Two New Defense-Operated Imagery Satellites Planned

Reuters is running a story today that indicates that the Pentagon has approved plans to build and operate two imagery satellites dedicated solely to intelligence. This appears to be in direct conflict with a presidential directive that placed more importance on supporting the commercial imagery sector. The Reuters story indicates that this decision marks a go ahead for the Broad Area Space-based Imagery Collector (BASIC) after a year of intense debate.
