The U.S. Geological Survey along with the British Antarctic Survey are studying the entire Antarctic coastline to document change. Preliminary research shows that one ice shelf has completely disappeard and that another has lost a significant portion the size of Rhode Island. Antarctica holds the Earth’s largest store of glacial ice and the study points to a rapid decline that is much more advanced than expected.
