The U.S. Geological Survey had ther mobile mapping recreation vehicle on the show floor at GITA’s Geospatial Infrastructure Solutions Conference. This vehicle was used during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita inorder to bring geospatial mapping capabilities to the field to map and model biological impacts of natural disasters.
The emergency response mapping effort focuses on sample collection and field processing of scientific information, geological, hydrological and geographic information. The tricked-out RV has an onboard satellite dish for Internet connection, it can serve as a GPS base station, has satellite voice communications, and can receive TV signals for weather and emergency information.
The vehicle has a few printers on board, including a large-format map sheet printer, and there are server racks on board with a broad amount of geospatial data.
