PR - Daylight Solutions, Inc., a leading manufacturer of molecular detection and imaging solutions in the mid-infrared, announced today that the company has been awarded a Phase 1 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award from the Department of Energy (DOE). The SBIR will be used to further advance Daylights platform sensor technology as it applies to measuring atmospheric fluxes and concentrations of carbon isotopes in carbon dioxide (CO2).

The project is focused on the design and assembly of a compact, portable sensor that provides highly accurate, real-time concentration measurements. The sensor will be based upon Daylights patented technology in rapidly tunable, external-cavity quantum cascade lasers.

Replacing traditional mass spectrometry and cryogenically-cooled mid-infrared laser technologies with Daylights highly advanced miniaturized systems, offers many advantages. This is particularly true in field deployable situations, where remote, real-time measurements are required, says company CEO, Dr. Timothy Day. We are excited to be applying Daylights technology in ways that assist and promote the atmospheric sciences community.
