Infotech Enterprises Receives GITA Excellence Award for EGIS Print E-mail

EGIS has thus become a reliable source of information to provide data for operations, commercial, planning and asset management. The data is always updated on a real time basis which gives the right information at the right time for better and more efficient decision making.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. B.V.R. The project, which leads the field in the electric distribution utility industry, was centred on interfacing and integrating GIS with other systems of the company encompassing all key business processes. This unique and innovative usage includes, but is not limited to, Capital Expenditure Management, Asset Management, Operations and Maintenance Management and Commercial Management.

The key challenges faced by NDPL included imprecise legacy data - addresses created over several decades , inadequate space to create a proper distribution infrastructure, and poor customer data in terms of billing and operational details. The other business challenges faced by NDPL were around reducing AT&C losses, new connections, planning and asset management.

The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) from Australia is a worldwide not-for-profit organization that provides excellence in education and information exchange on the use and benefits of geospatial information and location-aware technologies for asset and infrastructure management serving the global geospatial community. A hallmark of GITA has long been the stewardship and leadership afforded by its members who have unselfishly shared their experiences, actively filled the mentor role, pushed the technology and increased the business and community benefits. North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) incorporated on 1 July 2002 is a joint venture between TATA Power Company Limited and Government of National Capital Territory Delhi (GoNCTD), India (TATA Power – 51%, GoNCTD – 49%) and is one of the few private power distribution utilities in India, in an otherwise government owned industry. NDPL’s bid committed a loss reduction of 17% in five years (from an opening loss level of 48.1% in July 2002 to 31.1% by 2006-07. In reality, the opening AT&C loss levels were found to be 53% and at the end of the five year period this stood at 18.5%.
