Forest Week will celebrate
the contribution of European forests to mitigating climate change, providing
wood and renewable energy, securing the supply of fresh water and protecting
our environment.

The European
Forest Week will celebrate
the contribution of European forests to mitigating climate change, providing
wood and renewable energy, securing the supply of fresh water and protecting
our environment.
Rome-based
events will features plenary
discussions
on:
- Forests & Climate
Change (Tuesday, 21 October 2008)
- Forests & Energy
(Wednesday, 22 October 2008)
- Forests & Water
(Thursday, 23 October 2008)
- Working together
for Forests (24 October 2008)
Policy
dialogues
will highlight issues such as the role of wood products in climate change
mitigation, adaptation, forest health, wood energy, potential sustainable
wood supply, climate change and forest biodiversity, forest law enforcement
and governance, forest fire management, and gender & forestry.
In addition, a workshop
on green
building will
be held on Monday, 20 October. The annual UNECE/FAO forest product markets
discussions
will take place in the afternoons of 21-22 October, covering all forest
products’ market sectors as well as interlinked policy developments in
the UNECE region of Europe, North America and the CIS.
In Brussels,
a Conference
by the European Economic and Social Committee
will take place on Thursday, 23 October 2008, on “The role of forests
and the forest-based sector in meeting the EU's climate commitments.”
In addition to events
in Brussels and Rome, forest-related activities will be taking place at
national and local levels
throughout Europe
.
