Labor Laws: Need to Build Civilian and Military Geospatial Capacity

There are too many unemployed and under employed students. Within Europe the percentage of unemployed young adults 18  –  30 varies by country but ranges between 10  –  40% in some locations  —  globally a similar situation occurs. Our technological prowess outstrips our wisdom to build an active, effective and inspirational generation of young minds that are choosing to solve the […]

Spatial Awareness: Geology Beyond the Map

The story of J. Harlan Bretz, “a giant among geological thinkers” is described by Earth and Mind blog in an entry entitled ‘J. Harlen Bretz, Spatial Thinker’. “Bretz assembled and defended the hypothesis that the Pacific Northwest had been swept by enormous floods, which carved the scablands of Idaho and eastern Washington and reshaped the […]

New Zealand Seabed Maps

Detailed maps of the New Zealand seabed are available. “They give an unprecedented insight into the shape of the ocean floor  –  ridges, volcanoes, plateaus, canyons and seamounts. The data presents digital terrain models generated from multibeam data, combined with traditional bathymetric data,” as the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric (NIWA) indicates. “So what can you […]

3D Medical Imaging — 3D Urban Imaging

Can new developments in 3D medical imaging enable advances in 3D urban imaging and modeling? I recently came across Viatronix, a 3D medical imaging software. The link between medical imaging and geospatial imaging has long been known, they employ similar techniques. Although some might say medical imaging and processing is more advanced, I am not […]

The designer looks specifically through the interpretations and stereotypes of Britain, Germany, France, Italy and […]

Can Useful Intelligence Be Extracted From Visualizations?

In the ‘Perspectives’ column this week?— “Can Useful Intelligence Be Extracted From Visualizations?” The extraction of useful geo-intelligence can be readily extracted from airborne and satellite imagery. But can we extract useful information from visualizations? In principle, providing a visualization includes a geo-reference of some type, then information could be extracted from them. There are […]
