Standardisation for High Quality Earth Observation

The Canada Centre for Remote Sensing published the paper ‘Importance of Data Standardization for Generating High Quality Earth Observation Products for
Natural Resource Management’ in 2004. What is striking about this paper is that it still applies today, perhaps moreso.

“…the purpose of this report is to present a series of examples that illustrate for non-specialists what happens to the information content of Earth observation products with and without proper characterization and correction,” the report states.

It refers to the ‘chain of space’ when discussing the work flow for earth observation work. There is an orientation toward energy applications with examples provided for wind farm locations and icing in marine environments where petroleum operations are found.
