Yesterday Bentley Systems presented it's latest initiative - Intelligent Structural Modeling . The company announced a collection of products (and methodology) that are designed to integrate CAD and BIM together with an emphasis on workflows.
The products include:
This is a collection of tools that can be used to perform design reviews with all project participants in mind. They can share information between each other. In one example AutoCAD 3D data was shared within the Bentley environment.
As Bentley indicates - Structural modeling, analysis, design, documentation, and detailing – within integrated and flexible workflows – empowers intelligent structural design practices. The benefits are dynamic collaboration and increased data reuse among structural engineers, detailers, and fabricators. The results are more efficient delivery of high quality designs and well-coordinated and accurate documentation, along with increased project productivity, reduced errors, and improved quality control.
You'll notice that a Revit plugin is included in the toolset and provides a means to link to Autodesk Revit (2009-2010 -- 32-bit). A description of the individual components listed above is here. Many of these are freely available.
