Bentley Intelligent Structural Design

Yes­ter­day Bent­ley Sys­tems pre­sented it’s lat­est ini­tia­tive — Intel­li­gent Struc­tural Mod­el­ing . The com­pany announced a col­lec­tion of prod­ucts (and method­ol­ogy) that are designed to inte­grate CAD and BIM together with an empha­sis on workflows.

The prod­ucts include:

• Struc­tural Syn­chro­nizer V8i
• ISM Revit Plug-in V8i
• Struc­tural Dash­board V8i
• RAM Ele­ments V8i
• RAM Con­cept V8i
• Struc­tural Mod­eler V8i

This is a col­lec­tion of tools that can be used to per­form design reviews with all project par­tic­i­pants in mind. They can share infor­ma­tion between each other.  In one exam­ple Auto­CAD 3D data was shared within the Bent­ley environment.

As Bent­ley indi­cates — Struc­tural mod­el­ing, analy­sis, design, doc­u­men­ta­tion, and detail­ing – within inte­grated and flex­i­ble work­flows – empow­ers intel­li­gent struc­tural design prac­tices. The ben­e­fits are dynamic col­lab­o­ra­tion and increased data reuse among struc­tural engi­neers, detail­ers, and fab­ri­ca­tors. The results are more effi­cient deliv­ery of high qual­ity designs and well-coordinated and accu­rate doc­u­men­ta­tion, along with increased project pro­duc­tiv­ity, reduced errors, and improved qual­ity control.

You’ll notice that a Revit plu­gin is included in the toolset and pro­vides a means to link to Autodesk Revit (2009 – 2010 — 32-bit). A descrip­tion of the indi­vid­ual com­po­nents listed above is here. Many of these are freely available.
